We don't know just when the Holman company was founded, but the San Francisco directory for 1883 shows a listing for the J. HAMMOND CAT CO. (associated with W.L. HOLMAN) 217-227 Fremont St. and 334 Beal Street. ^[302]

By 1909, the company was under the control of the Pacific Car & Foundry Company.
