Train Rides Amid a Winter Wonderland

Wintertime railroading is a unique experience one will never forget. Travel through the Winter Wonderland of scenic Sauk County on our 40th annual Snow Train. All cars are kept comfortably warm using the over century-old tradition of steam heating or coal-fired stoves.

Schedule

Each train ride lasts approximately 55-minutes round-trip with the exception of the Saturday evening Dinner Train which lasts 2-1/2 to 3 hours. Coach seating is available on all departures except Dinner Train. First Class tickets are available on the 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. departures each day.

First Class Service

Enjoy being waited on by uniformed friendly staff. Hors d' oeurves and beverages are served in the Soo Line 2017, a diner-lounge car built in 1914, and in the C&NW 440, a business car built in 1929. First-class service is available on the 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. trains. Reservations are recommended. Call the museum office for additional details: 608-522-4261, or toll free: 800-930-1385. Dining Service

Dine in fine style, with a multi-course gourmet meal, served to you by uniformed friendly staff. Dinner trains board at 5:15 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. departure from North Freedom, on Saturday only (please note the earlier departure time than previous years). Reservations are required. Meet the Mid-Continent Railway Museum volunteers and climb aboard early 20th Century railcars.

Uniformed crew members will collect tickets, share historical information and answer questions during the ride.

Follow the former branchline of the Chicago & North Western Railway through rural Sauk County.

First Class ticket holders enjoy hors d' oeurves and drinks from onboard a 1929 Pullman car.
