Is the train wheelchair accessible? Yes. A portable wheelchair lift is available at the depot. The museum's depot, gift shop, restrooms, picnic shelter, and Coach Shed are wheelchair accessible. Are there restrooms on the train? No. Restroom facilities are only available at the museum grounds in North Freedom and at Quartzite Lake, the far end of the line. Is smoking allowed on the train? No smoking is allowed on the train, or inside museum buildings. Is food or drink allowed on the train? No. Soda vending machines are available at the museum picnic shelter adjacent to the depot. How long is the trip? The train takes 20 minutes to travel from North Freedom depot to the end of the line. Allow up to an hour for a round trip during the busy summer season. Are groups welcome? Yes! Special group rates are available, and there is plenty of free parking for buses and larger vehicles. Windows open to allow air circulation during the summer, just as was done at the turn of the century. First-class and dining service cars ARE air conditioned however. Are pets allowed on the train? No. However, personal assistance animals are allowed on all trains and premises. What are the hours for the Gift Shop? The Gift Shop and Ticket Office in the depot are open from 9:30am until 5:00pm, on days the trains operate and the museum is open. Can I make reservations? Reservations are not accepted for standard coach fares during the regular season. Seating is first-come, first-served. The museum will add additional coaches for more capacity if traffic warrants. For special events, coach-class tickets may be reserved in advance by calling or reserving online. Reservations are required for First-class and dinner train tickets and may be purchased in advance by mail, phone, or online.
